Ariane Mildenberg

Lecturer in Modernism

Dr Ariane Mildenberg is Lecturer in Modernism at the University of Kent. Her work focuses on the kinship of method and concern between modernist literature and phenomenology, particularly the work of Edmund Husserl and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. She is currently completing a monograph entitled Modernism and Phenomenologyi: Philosophy, Literature, Art (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and an edited volume entitled Understanding Merleau-Ponty, Understanding Modernism (Bloomsbury, 2017). She has published articles and essays on phenomenology in the work of Virginia Woolf, Paul Cézanne, John Ashbery, Gertrude Stein and Wallace Stevens, and is co-editor of Phenomenology, Modernism and Beyond (Palgrave, 2010), an interdisciplinary collection of essays exploring a variety of modernist issues, gravitating around the phenomenology of Edmund Husserl, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Martin Heidegger, Gaston Bachelard, Michel Henry and Paul Ricoeur.
