This is the final opportunity this year to meet face to face with the editors from The Conversation. They love coming to Oxford and building lasting connections with researchers which often lead to articles being published on the site. Once they have worked with you once they are more likely to come back to you again. It is also a great opportunity to learn more about writing opinion pieces for a public audience from experienced journalists. This time the session will be really relevant to those social sciences so don’t miss out!
The Conversation Editors-in-Residence Day (Trinity Term 2017)
We have The Conversation editors coming for an ‘in-residence’ day on April 20th. The sessions will be held in Seminar Room C of the Manor Road Building. Visiting will be Laura Hood (politics and society editor) and Annabel Bligh (business and economics editor). NB don’t worry if you don’t fit with these topic areas, they will be covering the whole range of topics. However, if you have something to say relating to Brexit or other current political or economic news stories then this is the ideal time to speak in person to Laura and Annabel.
We have schedule two identical workshops (ie only sign up for one of them!) to run morning and afternoon with each session followed by a series of one-to-one meeting opportunities, if you want to discuss a specific idea with one of the editors.
This session led by two editors from The Conversation introduces ‘The Conversation’, how to get involved, the benefits of writing for this platform, tips on writing for a general audience and examples of types of articles they publish. Also hear ‘Why writing for The Conversation was the best thing I did for my research profile last year’ from an Oxford academic. Bring along ideas for a story to this workshop, where under the supervision of editors from The Conversation you will plan and start an article, with feedback throughout.
