My research focuses on transnational transfers among Ghanaian migrants in the UK and their relatives in Ghana. I explore the nature and direction of these transfers based on the diverse socio-economic backgrounds of migrants and their relatives and their access to various forms capital. I show that the remittance debate as it stands now, needs to be reconsidered to put into realistic perspective the unbridled optimism that surrounds 'North' to 'South' remittances as a development tool for developing countries.
