Dr Jas Elsner is Humfry Payne Senior Research Fellow in Classical Art and Archaeology, and Fellow of Corpus Christi College. His main interest is the art of the Roman empire, broadly conceived to include late antiquity and the early middle ages including Byzantium as well as the pre-Christian Classical world. His publications include Roman Eyes: Visuality and Subjectivity in Art and Text (Princeton University Press, 2007).
