Melissa Benn is a writer, journalist and campaigner. She is a regular contributor to The Guardian and New Statesman. Melissa has written, or edited, seven books, including two novels. In 2011, she published School Wars: The Battle for Britain’s Education which the Observer called ‘a tremendous book.’ As an active campaigner for comprehensive education, Melissa is a founder member of the Local Schools Network, a Vice President of the Socialist Education Association, and is current chair of Comprehensive Future, a group arguing for the the phasing out of selection at 11 and the implementation of fair school admissions. She is also on the board of Forum, the academic journal promoting 3-19 comprehensive education. Her most recent book is called The Truth About Our Schools: Exploding the Myths, Exploring the Evidence.
She is a member of the advisory board for the TORCH Women in Humanities programme.
