Portfolio Careers Workshop

Tuesday, November 24, 2015 -
2:00pm to 4:15pm
Radcliffe Humanities (ground floor)
Colin Matthew Room

What is a portfolio career, and why might you want one? This session suggests ways of thinking more creatively about your career options, with a focus on combining academic with non-academic roles and projects. We'll encourage you to reflect on your current work life and how happy or otherwise it's making you, and to think through how your skills and experience could equip you to expand your professional life in interesting and satisfying new directions.

John Miles (Humanities Training Officer), Emily Troscianko (Humanities Postdoctoral Training Coordinator and Modern Languages Research Associate), and Eleanor Parker (Lecturer in Italian/Student Recruitment Officer) will talk about some of the pros and cons of their own experiences of mixed careers, and Claire Conway (Careers Adviser, OU Careers Service) will offer thoughts and advice from her work with a wide range of humanities academics. All three of us will also be at the early-career lunch before the session.
