Rosana Pinheiro-Machado is a social scientist and an anthropologist. She currently teaches in the Department of International Development at Oxford University. She is also a columnist for the Brazilian magazine CartaCapital. She received her PhD from UFRGS (Brazil) in 2009. Prior to joining Oxford, she was a visiting scholar at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. Her research—based on a longitudinal ethnography in three countries (China, Paraguay, and Brazil) over 15 years—analyzes a global commodity chain in the Global South, with particular interest in the topics of informal economy and intellectual property.
