Call for Papers: Lords in the Landscape 800-1300

capture

Radcliffe Humanities Building, Oxford

18 February 2017

Keynote:
Dr Chris Lewis
King’s College London

We invite papers from postgraduates and early-career researchers whose work engages with lordship in its spatial setting, for a one-day interdisciplinary conference. The period 800-1300 spanned profound changes both in ideas of lordship and in its physical realities. An array of disciplines – including history, archaeology, literature, landscape studies, and legal history – provide means of shedding light on these developments. This conference seeks to bring different subject areas into conversation, and share perspectives on one of the defining institutions of medieval society.

While the focus is expected to be mainly on the British Isles, studies from elsewhere in Europe are welcomed.

Proposals for 20-minute papers (comprising an abstract of up to 250 words and a brief description of your research) should be sent to the organisers, Hannah Boston and Richard Purkiss, at lordsandlandscape2017@gmail.com by 24 December 2016.
