The Danish Institute for Advanced Study (D-IAS) at The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is a unique international research centre that aims to inspire ground-breaking ideas through the meeting of minds within all academic disciplines. The Institute brings outstanding researchers together in an interdisciplinary centre for fundamental research and intellectual inquiry. Working across the five faculties at the University - Humanities, Science, Engineering, Business and Social Sciences, and Health Sciences - D-IAS exists to encourage and support curiosity-driven research and thereby unlock new revolutionary ideas.

The academic core at D-IAS is currently formed by 13 chairs - each an internationally esteemed scholar within his or her field. In the coming years, D-IAS is expected to expand to 30 chairs, and the five faculties of SDU will contribute with 25 assistant professorships to the Institute. A central campus building dedicated to D-IAS is currently under construction, and the centre expects to move into its new surroundings by late 2019.

D-IAS is now seeking to appoint a new Director with the expertise and ambition to lead this visionary research institute. The successful appointee will be an internationally renowned researcher in their field with the leadership and communication skills to inspire, innovate and influence across a range of national and international stakeholders. Working in close collaboration with the chairs and the wider academic community the Director will develop and implement a strategy that supports the Institute’s ambition to be a world leader in interdisciplinary research. The term of appointment will be for six years with an option for a further three years. SDU offers an attractive appointment package, which may include funding for a number of postdocs and a spouse programme.
