The Georgian Group is the national charity for the preservation of historic buildings and planned landscapes of c.1700‐1840 in England and Wales. We were established in 1937 and since 1971 have been a statutory consultee on Listed Building Consent applications.

We are seeking to appoint two full-time caseworkers to assess and respond to relevant development proposals in England. The Georgian Group has a statutory right to be notified where total or part demolition of any listed building dating from 1700-1840 in England is proposed. The Georgian Group is principally interested in buildings, landscapes and structures dating from 1700-1840.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable knowledge of historic buildings and practical building conservation, as well as familiarity with the listed building control system. The job will require the development of strong contacts with Historic England, local planning officers, church bodies and local heritage organisations and may involve contact with the press or appearance at public inquiries. Attendance at committee meetings in London to present casework will be necessary. Strong written and oral communication skills are a key requirement.

The successful candidates will be expected to work from our London office in Fitzroy Square, W1T 5DX, when not on site visits. They will be proactive, self-motivated and self-reliant. Site visits are an integral part of the job and a full driving licence will be needed.  With the advent of e-planning, we are increasingly consulted electronically, so computer literacy is essential. The casework boundaries in southern England will be split equally between the two successful candidates.

Applicants should have a flexible and positive attitude to working arrangements and a willingness to assist as necessary with the charity’s general activities, such as educational events and administrative tasks.

To apply, please send (by e-mail) a CV and covering letter to David McKinstry, Secretary, The Georgian Group, david@georgiangroup.org.uk
Closing date: 12pm on 31 January 2017
Interviews will be held in February 2017

The starting date for successful candidates is likely to be from late February, but can be extended for those serving out a notice period.
