Rethinking Social Mobility

rags to riches

‘Rags to Riches?: Experiences of Social Mobility Since 1800’, an interdisciplinary research network based at The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), is hosting a one day workshop in Oxford on 19th June 2015. We would like to invite researchers at all levels across the social sciences and humanities, and those from outside academia, to submit abstracts for short (10 minute) working papers on new directions in the qualitative study of social mobility.

Social mobility has re-emerged as an important topic in academic research, political policy and protest, and the media which has given rise to a vast array of new ways to think about and analyse it as a social, cultural, economic and lived experience process. The aim of the workshop is to explore these new directions, approaches, studies and research projects being undertaken across the humanities and social sciences on the topic of social mobility.
