Celebrating Funding Success with the Oxford University Heritage Network

Professor Heather Viles and our Heritage Engagement Fellow, Dr Oliver Cox (co-leads of Oxford University Heritage Network) have been awarded £130,000 from the University of Oxford’s Strategic Innovation Fund for a series of events and activities called ‘Kick-starting Heritage Innovations’.  Funding will be used to create an Oxford University-led Multi-partner Innovation Collaboration (provisionally called ‘Heritage Innovations’) to enable knowledge exchange, innovation and commercialisation in the field of heritage.
Heritage Innovations will target three priority innovation areas:

  • New technologies – the University has world leading technical expertise in smart monitoring technologies for heritage conservation and we will focus on developing commercial partnerships to leverage this knowledge;
  • Content development and delivery – working with Humanities academics to demonstrate how an engaging visitor experience, rooted in the latest academic research and delivered in a compelling way, encourages greater visitor spend-per-head and organisational resilience;
  • Change management – working with colleagues at Oxford University's Saïd Business School (SBS) and GLAM to use management expertise to support organisations during the COVID-recovery period.

The project is currently in its scoping phase. Regular updates and opportunities for involvement will be posted to OUHN website and Twitter pages.
