In this episode, recorded in Port Meadow on a freezing December evening, Dr Tinashe Mushakavanhu explains to Dr Niall Munro how Marechera came to live in a tent in one of Oxford's large parks, Port Meadow, in the north of the city.

Marechera said that he wrote much of his famous book, The House of Hunger (originally titled 'At The Head Of The Stream'), whilst living in the tent. Tinashe talks about the opening of the novella, which draws on Marechera's childhood experiences in Zimbabwe, and considers how some of the themes explored there might be linked to the author's experiences in Oxford.

You can track Marechera's movements around Oxford on our interactive map, which includes photographs of locations, more interviews, text about Marechera's time in the city, and quotations from the author, and recordings of his work: https://maphub.net/disruptivedialogues/disruptive-dialogues-dambudzo-marechera-in-oxford
