What is the Book at Lunchtime?

If you are looking for a way to discover exciting new books during your lunch break, look no further than TORCH's Book at Lunchtime series.

For 13 years, this series has transformed traditional book launches into a dynamic, interdisciplinary conversation (or sometimes even a performance!). These short sessions invite an author to discuss their latest work with expert commentators from various academic fields.

The uniqueness of Book at Lunchtime lies in its breadth and its collaborative approach, a defining feature of TORCH's wider work as an interdisciplinary research hub. With topics spanning literature, linguistics, history, social issues, philosophy, environmental studies, and science, these conversations cater to a range of interests.

How can I attend?

The events are free to attend in person and are open to both members of the University and the public. They are held fortnightly during term-time at the Schwarzman Centre, offering a free lunch before each talk.

But there is no need to be physically in Oxford to join the conversation. Every session is recorded and shared on the TORCH YouTube channel and put in the dedicated Book at Lunchtime playlist. This archive is a treasure trove for anyone interested in detailed discussions on leading research and innovative books.
