Berlin University of the Arts / Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK Berlin)
TORCH is delighted to announce a new collaboration with the Berlin University of the Arts / Universität der Künste Berlin
The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of the world’s leading artistic university educational institutions. It reflects an institution of the 21st century while conscious of its tradition and history, dating back to the 17th century.
At the heart of The Berlin University of the Arts is outstanding artistic and design teaching, research and further education in over 70 programmes in the four colleges of Fine Arts, Architecture, Media and Design, Music and Performing Arts, as well as the Berlin Career College, the Inter-University Centre for Dance (in partnership with the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (in partnership with the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin). The Berlin University of the Arts is one of the few art colleges in Germany with university status and the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. It also trains teachers of art, music and theatre/performing arts.
The understanding of art taught at UdK Berlin draws on a broad perspective of practice and theory, which opens up and critically reflects our approaches to the world. In a constantly evolving culture of inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation the familiar is questioned and epistemic and methodological novelties are drawn from the dynamic area between art and science.
The Berlin University of the Arts and the University of Oxford have been working together particularly through TORCH since 2020. The research alliance, entitled 'The Oxford - UdK Berlin Partnership in Arts and Humanities', has established various formats for developing academic exchange. Since 2022, nearly 20 seed-funded projects by researchers and artists from both universities have been successfully awarded. The collaboration will continue to open new avenues for academic and artistic excellence and make a significant contribution to international education and research.
