A Call for Submissions: A Personal History of Home

Supported by TORCH as part of the Humanities Cultural Programme.

As part of the Personal History of Home project, Dr Wong invites everyone to explore their own sense of home by sending their creative compositions (including poems, flash fiction / short stories, non-fiction, photographs as well as artworks) inspired by their own personal history or journeys. Dr Wong particularly encourage submissions that explore the idea of multiple homes and diasporic living, i.e. those who have moved from one place to another.

Dr Wong would like to showcase these compositions on a digital library via the TORCH website so that anyone can access them and feel inspired. Dr Wong is also exploring the possibility of publishing a selection of contributions in an anthology.

For more information about the submission criteria, see below.

The initial deadline for submission is 31 August 2022. Submissions received after this date will be accepted, but these may not be considered for the anthology.

Submission criteria
1. All works must be the original works of the author. Both published or unpublished works are acceptable (please indicate acknowledgement where the piece was first published if needed).
2. The submission should be a creative composition, and can be in any genre (e.g. poems, flash fiction / short stories, non-fiction, photography, collages, and other kinds of artworks). We accept written submissions (in Word doc format) that are up to 60 lines for a poem, and prose writing of up to 2000 words.
3. To submit, please email personalhistoryofhome@gmail.com with your name, email, word count (for writing), title of work and a brief paragraph explaining the thematic concept behind the creative work. Dr Wong would also love to know if you are associated with the University in anyway (e.g student or staff) or external.
4. Multiple entries are accepted.
5. Please let us know when submitting work if you wish only to be featured in the online gallery and not for an anthology.
6. By submitting work the participant agrees to grant permission to showcase their creative work on the TORCH project website, with due acknowledgement, and to publicise their work, both online and in a possible anthology.

7. The participant remains the owner of the works and retain the right to use the same work elsewhere.
