sergio raimondi and young brit poets double cover

Book at Lunchtime has the privilege of discussing two works of translated poetry - Young British Poets and The Selected Poems of Sergio Raimondi. We welcome Ben Bollig Professor of Latin American Literature & Film, Fellow and Tutor in Spanish, St Catherine’s College, Oxford and Alejandra Crosta (Medieval and Modern Languages and Literatures); and Mark Leech (poet and translator) to discuss their work. We also welcome esteemed Argentine poet Sergio Raimondi whose selected poems were recently translated by Ben Bollig and Mark Leech.

Young British Poets, is published by Espacio Hudson (an independent publisher in Patagonia, which is run by the poet Cristian Aliaga) The first edition, entitled Antropólogos en las islas, was published both to showcase the latest British and Irish poetry to a Southern Cone audience, and to raise funds for their publishing and cultural initiatives. Hudson’s mission includes publishing poetry and other writing by marginalised communities and first peoples from the south of the south. For the second edition, Alejandra and Ben wished to bring it up to date with new voices and a more diverse selection of poets, in particular reflecting changes in the UK in recent years – Grenfell, Brexit, Black Lives Matter.

Sergio Raimondi is Argentina’s most important and influential contemporary poet, with an international reputation. Sergio Raimondi, Selected Poems brings much of his major works Poesía civil (Civil Poetry) and Lexikón (Lexikon) into English for the first time, accompanied by a translators’ introduction that puts his poetry in its literary and wider cultural context.

Join Ben, Alejandra, Mark and an expert panel to discuss these powerful and enchanting works.
