Book at Lunchtime: Conquered

book at lunchtime conquered

TORCH Book at Lunchtime welcomes Dr Eleanor Parker (Brasenose College) to discuss her book Conquered: The Last Children of Anglo-Saxon England. The book has received wonderful reviews such as :-

"This outstanding, beautifully written history follows the young Anglo-Saxon whose lives were shattered by the Norman conquest" (The Times, Best Books of 2022)

"Conquered is beautifully produced and written with flair and great scholarly acumen"

The Norman Conquest is one of the most momentous events in English history and its consequences changed England forever. Indeed, the Battle of Hastings and its aftermath nearly wiped out the leading families of Anglo-Saxon England - so what happened to the children this conflict left behind?

Join Dr Parker and an expert panel including Dr Emily Winkler (History) and Michael Lysander Angerer (History) to explore the lives of those children who found themselves uprooted by the dramatic events of 1066.

Wednesday 8 November, 12,30pm lunch, 1pm-2pm discussion
