Ashmolean After Hours: Pharoah Friday!

Friday 18 November, 5pm-8pm

Part of the Humanities Cultural Programme Egypt Season and Being Human Festival 2022

 

 

Egypt Season explores the rich cultural, archaeological, artistic, and political history of Egypt. and takes place October to December 2022. Egypt has inspired generations in so many ways and with the centenary of the re-discovery of King Tutankhamun's Tomb in November 1922, TORCH will be bringing together artists and researchers to commemorate Egypt and its influence on the world.  

As part of Egypt Season TORCH will be collaborating with the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford for a special After Hours event, also part of the Humanities Cultural Programme one of the founding stones for the future Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities., and Being Human FestivalAfter Hours: Pharoah Friday will be an exciting evening of Ancient Egypt inspired music, talks, art and performance.

 

We are currently looking for students to take part in this exciting After Hours event on Friday 18th November.

  • Does your study or interest relate to Ancient Egypt in any context?
  • Are you a musician or performer with an interest in Egyptian inspired music, art or performance?
  • Would you be interested in offering a short bite-sized talk, or hosting an activity during the evening?

 

If you have an idea and would like to participate in this event please send your suggestions to hcp@torch.ox.ac.uk by Friday 14th October 2022.

Your expression of interest should include:

1. Your full name, Oxford Humanities Faculty and your position/area of study/interest

2. Any previous experience in wider public engagement with research (this is not essential)

3. Brief summary of your idea for an activity, talk or performance/installation

4. Any equipment/or materials needed (please note there may be small budgets available but participants would be responsible for sourcing and bringing what they require). Tables/chairs for activities would be provided. 

 

All participants will receive the experience of working within a museum environment. The TORCH team will be available to support with set up and queries and will also carry out audience evaluation during the evening, which we will pass on to all participants to evidence involvement. The event will be documented via photography and a short highlights film, and will be publicised through the TORCH website, social media and newsletters.
