Elizabeth Inchbald, The Massacre

massacre for website

In The Massacre, Inchbald daringly explores the causes and costs of revolutionary violence by focusing on the desperate plight of a single family. Written in 1792 as the French Revolution spiralled into bloodshed, and too politically provocative to be performed in the playwright's own lifetime, the tragedy remains chillingly timely.

This rehearsed reading is presented in collaboration with the R/18 Collective and TORCH.
