The Oxford-Uppsala Interdisciplinary Initiative: Culture and Creativity Research Cluster invites expressions of interest for an exploratory collaboration.

Following a new partnership between TORCH and the Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society (CIRCUS) at Uppsala University, the Oxford-Uppsala Initiative Research Cluster is intended to encourage collaboration between researchers in the Humanities at the University of Oxford and Uppsala University. As part of this initiative, the Culture and Creativity Research Cluster aims to encourage collaboration between researchers in the Humanities at Oxford and Uppsala and to facilitate opportunities for developing strategic multi-disciplinary research projects together.

We invite researchers interested exploring and developing interdisciplinary collaborative projects with new colleagues at Uppsala University to submit an initial expression of interest through the IRAMS system.

Postholders in the Humanities should be working in topics related to culture (broadly defined), including but not limited to: environmental humanities, medical humanities, digitalization, games, literature, theatre and performance, heritage, art and media. The key themes of interest include:

-Play (in any iteration of playfulness, role-play, or gaming)

-Performance

-Narrative innovation

Support for the collaboration will take place between 1st September, 2024 to 15th January, 2025 and is likely to include activities such as:

  • Travel for a 4-day research visit to Uppsala University in April or May 2025
  • Joint online workshops organised by TORCH and CIRCUS
  • Community engagement activities

Anticipated outcomes for the collaboration include:

  • Building new interdisciplinary connections and opportunities for further collaboration with researchers at Uppsala University

  • The development of shared research questions and objectives.

  • Events, activities or research working groups which include researchers from both Uppsala University and the University of Oxford.

  • Non-traditional research outputs such as film, art or installations could also be part of the outcomes.
