Gender, Identity and Subjectivity

telling fortune in coffee grounds 1790

A graduate-led reading and discussion group, which is a collaborative and creative place to discuss your ideas and insights.

The seminars will begin with discussions exploring approaches to gender in historical research, there are also sessions planned on a range of topics, including women and political movements, gender and material culture, lifecycle and age, and class and identity. However, these are loosely organised, and you are invited to sign up to lead one of these hourly sessions in which ever format you wish. You may want to lead discussion around an article, present some of your own research or work-in-progress, initiate a conversation about contemporary issues and debates, choose any combination of these, or do something else entirely. You may want to ask people to read, watch or observe something and reflect on a topic in advance, though please be mindful of workloads and keep readings short.

These seminars are run by the Centre for Gender, Identity and Subjectivity. Further information about the programme and the seminar formats is available on the CGIS Graduate Research Group pages available here. You can request any of readings from the CGIS Co-ordinator Naomi Pullin (naomi.pullin@history.ox.ac.uk).
