‘To make shame more shameful still by making it public’: 'On the Poverty of Student Life' and the student protests of May 1968

In solidarity with the UCU strikes, join Intersectional Humanities and Wadham Socialist Reading Group in a relaxed and friendly setting to read 'On the Poverty of Student Life’ amongst other texts related to the events of May 1968. The loose theme of the session is the intersections between student protest in 1968 and global movements, including post-colonial nationalism/anti-imperialism, black power, and women's liberation.

'On the Poverty of Student Life’ was written and published in 1966 by students at University of Strasbourg and the Situationist International. Its publication and dissemination caused an uproar and precipitated the events of May 1968 in France. You can find the text available online below or we've included a .pdf of relevant quotations to discuss as we understand not everyone will have the time to read the text fully!

You can find the text available online here.
