On Thursday 4th February 2021, Knowledge Exchange Fellow Dr Arlene Holmes-Henderson attended the online launch of the National Centre for Academic and Cultural Exchange (NCACE).

David Sweeney, the Executive Chair of Research England (a council within UKRI) opened the event by highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange to society, the economy and the arts. He explained that the Knowledge Exchange Concordat was transforming the way in which universities approached knowledge exchange, making them think much more strategically about its importance.

“I am excited to be investing in this new centre that hopes to bring a step change in the ability of universities to support KE with the arts and cultural sector in this difficult time.

This is an important opportunity to better understand, demonstrate and further support and nurture the exceptional collaborative work that is being done across the country, and for Research England and universities to support the wider resilience of the sector into the future.“  David Sweeney

Professor Trevor McMillan, Vice-Chancellor of Keele University and Knowledge Exchange Champion for Research England, spoke about the development of the Knowledge Exchange Framework. He shared the strategic vision of Keele University which has knowledge exchange embedded within it at all levels: Purpose, Partnerships, People, Performance and Place.

Other members of the NCACE ‘Sounding Board’ gave presentations about the importance of sharing expertise beyond academia, showcasing examples including from the Crafts Council.
