George Rousseau (University of Oxford), speaking on ‘Some Origins of Celebrity Culture in Mid-Georgian England: a Microhistory’
Professor George Rousseau is a cultural historian whose work encompasses literature, medicine, science, and fame in the Enlightenment. His most recent book, The Notorious Sir John Hill: The Man Destroyed by Ambition in the Era of Celebrity has been widely praised and shortlisted for the Oscar Kenshur Prize.
The Celebrity Research Network at TORCH seeks to bring together scholars in the Humanities at the University of Oxford who are interested in concepts and histories of celebrity.
