Teaching Medieval Diversity

oms red

This informal workshop (Rescheduled from Hilary Term) aims to provide a forum for discussion of how medievalists in Oxford can combat assumptions about a monocultural Middle Ages, and how we can best provide students with the opportunity to study a wide range of experiences and viewpoints. This includes addressing our teaching on topics such as race and ethnicity, gender, religion, class and status, sexuality and disability in the Middle Ages.

Speakers from a range of academic backgrounds will present 10-minute papers on their own experience of teaching some of these topics in Oxford, and offer suggestions on how we might adapt our approaches.

The workshop is intended to provide an opportunity for medievalists to pool their knowledge and experience. We encourage participants to come along with their own questions, contributions and suggestions.

Medievalists at all stages of their careers are welcome, regardless of whether you have more experience of teaching or of being taught.

Speakers: Philippa Byrne, John-Paul Ghobrial, Max Lau, Rachel Moss, Phacha Phanomvan, Amanda Power, Alice Raw, Marion Turner, Alex Vukovich
