The Vyne near Basingstoke will be undergoing significant conservation work between early 2016 to 2018.
The house’s historic collections will be removed, or protected and covered in situ, providing an exciting opportunity to tell new stories in one of the region’s most important Tudor properties.
Oxford University and the National Trust are working together to explore what those stories are, and the best way to tell them. We know we have a unique opportunity to engage our audience with ideas of Tudor feasting and hospitality; food and drink; and Tudor hierarchies of public and private space; as well as the daily life of Tudor nobles.
The aim of the workshop is to introduce colleagues at the National Trust to the most current research into the period and discuss how the property team at The Vyne could work with Oxford’s research expertise to create a rolling programme of experimental displays whilst the multi-million pound conservation project is completed.
We are looking for Oxford University colleagues with expertise in these areas from a range of disciplinary backgrounds who are eager to work with Britain’s largest heritage organisation on research-based public engagement and knowledge exchange projects.
The project managers of this multi-million pound conservation project will be hosting an information and workshop session on 1st February 2016 from 2:30pm-4:30pm at TORCH | The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, in collaboration with Dr Oliver Cox’s Thames Valley Country House Partnership, to discuss ideas for possible collaborative projects and potential funding avenues.
