The Old Fire Station
In 1898, Swiss artist Félix Vallotton exposed the private lives of the aristocracy in a series of ten woodcuts, Intimités. Building on this legacy, artist–writer duo Paul Majek and Sam Spencer presented Intimacies, after Vallotton.
Paper Moon Theatre invited audiences to spend an evening in the hazy, blue world of Vallotton's lovers, reimagined and brought to life in the Old Fire Station gallery through an innovative artistic and dramatic dialogue.
Visitors witnessed the fusion of art and theatre, choosing which paintings to listen to alongside Majek's cobalt canvases. They were immersed in a tumultuous world of romance, miscommunication, and many shades of blue.
A specially curated after-hours performance spread across three floors of the Old Fire Station gallery featured live music, panel discussions with the artists, curators, and academics, as well as the exhibition's artworks and audio collaboration. Together, these elements offered audiences the opportunity to experience Intimacies in its purest form: sensual, vibrant, and immersive.
The solo exhibition was also open to visitors during gallery opening hours from 4 March to 16 April 2022, allowing audiences to explore the artworks before experiencing the after-hours performance.
