TORCH Humanities and Identities Visiting Professorships
TORCH is delighted to open applications to invite two Humanities and Identities Visiting Professorships to Oxford for Michaelmas Term, 2026. This opportunity is open to Professors based at institutions in global majority countries.
As part of TORCH's wider Fellowship opportunities, including the Global Visiting Professorship Scheme, the Humanities and Identities Visiting Professorships will support two academics holding a current research position at an institution in a global majority country (for the purposes of this scheme, this is defined as the member states of the G77 group). Visiting academics should be working in the Humanities, or in Humanities-related fields. In order to apply, Visiting Professors must be nominated by an Oxford academic based in the Humanities Division or Humanities-related fields, using the internal Oxford application system.
The Visiting Professor’s research area should broadly engage with at least one of the below themes:
-
Humanities and Identities
-
Collaboration between Humanities and the Sciences
-
Human creativity in the age of AI
The successful scholar will be hosted in Oxford for Michaelmas Term, 2026. They are invited to conduct their research and to contribute, where possible, to the teaching environment through open and public events. They will also be encouraged to participate in the academic life of the wider university. The scheme brings mutual benefit to the Oxford community of researchers and students and to the Visiting Professor through the fruitful exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The two Visiting Professors will receive a stipend to cover their travel, accommodation, maintenance and research expenses. TORCH will provide assistance with visa applications and will also provide access to university libraries. The Visiting Professor will have a university card for 1 year, so that they can continue their research and connection to Oxford beyond their stay. College affiliation is not automatically included as part of this Professorship, and will be investigated on a case-by-case basis.
