Call for Proposals - Follow-on funding for Seedfunded Projects

The University of Oxford and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) invite previous awardees of the Oxford-UdK Seedfunding projects to apply for follow-on funding to continue or complement their existing project. The initiative aims to strengthen the ties between the two institutions by facilitating interdisciplinary research projects which create synergies between artistic and academic disciplines.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have been awarded a Oxford-UdK Berlin Seedfunding project in 2024 or 2025.
  • Applicants must be collaborating with a current professor at UdK Berlin.
  • Applications must be multi- / inter-disciplinary.
  • Applicants can apply for follow-on funding at both Oxford and UdK Berlin.
  • Lead applicants should have contracts in place with Oxford University to cover the full funding period applied for. They should normally be current salaried employees of the university holding an academic post, or research fellowship awarded competitively and intended to enable the holder to establish an independent research career.
  • The PI should be from a Humanities faculty/department, but co-applicants can be from other divisions.
  • Students are not eligible to apply.

Amount available: up to £1,500 per project

Activity Funded:

Eligible projects will run between 1 March 2026 and 31 October 2026, with activities taking place in Germany or the UK.
Funding can be used for purposes relating to the relevant project only. This can include travel and subsistence costs, event and publicity costs etc.
We would advise applicants to consider how funding might best be spent to maximise engagement. To that end, International Engagement funding can also be used to cover costs associated with filming and digital event delivery (but not for online platform licenses - TORCH can provide access to an online platform and support with technical delivery as part of its in-kind offering).

Please note: All funded projects are required to submit a final report (maximum 3 pages) upon completion of the project.

What we will not fund:
Please note that funding cannot be used for:

  • To cover the costs of bringing researchers at UdK Berlin to the UK. To fund costs such as the travel and accommodation of colleagues from UdK Berlin in the UK, please contact: Seedfunding.Oxford@udk-berlin.de
  • Travel to conferences run by other organisations that are not integral to the project or collaboration (this includes conference fees) nor personal research expenses
  • Salaries or teaching buy-out costs for applicants or other academic posts.
  • Membership of societies or subscriptions.
  • The costs of an evening dinner or reception as part of a conference are not usually permitted.
  • Zoom licences or other online platforms – TORCH has a zoom licence, which can be used depending on availability.
  • External websites – as a web page is given through the TORCH website.
  • Academic speaker fees or honoraria.
