Since the Spatial Turn in the late 20th century, space has been among the most popular and fruitful tools for studying history, literature, society, and more. Far from a neutral stage or a passive background, space – be it social, representational, represented, or even material – actively shapes events and is, in turn, shaped by them.

The explosion of spatial research has created both opportunities and challenges for students working from a spatial perspective. The Spatial Methodologies Network helps current postgraduates hone their use of space as an analytical tool by providing forums for interdisciplinary dialogue and support. We create connections between students and researchers working across disciplines, regions, and time periods to foster a community of spatial scholars at the University of Oxford.
