As a collaboration between TORCH Medical Humanities and Oxford Global Health

(with the support of the Uehiro Oxford Institute), we are planning a series of workshops in view of creating a glossary for global health terminology.

Interdisciplinary work in the humanities and beyond, especially around global health, often suffers from lack of shared terminology: scholars from different disciplines often use the same terms with different meanings/connotations. Sometimes this prevents fruitful discussion or collaboration.

In our workshops, one or two key terms are discussed with scholars invited from different disciplines, and at the end a summary of the discussion is used to create a repository of key terms.

The first meeting of this series is about the concept of equity, with an interdisciplinary discussion across philosophy, history, anthropology, and social sciences.

Convenors:

Caesar Atuire and Alberto Giubilini (Philosophy)

Participants:

Hohee Cho (history)

Ann Kelly (anthropology)

Patricia Kingori (social sciences)
