A work-in-progress show where female animals bite back by Helen Arney and Dr Fanny Clemente

B*TCH: An Evolutionary, Revolutionary Cabaret Collaboration is a work-in-progress show created by Helen Arney, a science communicator and musical theatre writer specialising in women and STEM, and Dr Fanny Clemente, a researcher based at the University of Oxford working on the animalisation of women in late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century Italian culture and literature. The musical theatre/comedy cabaret event is the result of a series of meetings between Helen and Fanny, inspired by the work of zoologist Lucy Cooke, author of Bitch: A Revolutionary Guide to Sex, Evolution, and the Female Animal (2022).

The event will consist of three musical theatre/comedy cabaret songs about the female animal kingdom, debunking myths and assumptions about it related to gender and sexuality, stemming from the different perspectives of the creators, intersecting humanities research, science research, and creative and public engagement practices.

The project is funded by TORCH and the Performance Research Hub at the University of Oxford and will take place at the Edward Boyle Auditorium in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at St Hilda's College, Oxford.

All are welcome. Event FREE to attend: please book here. Expected runtime is 1 hour.
