The Oxford Design Society is a collective space in which individuals interested in a variety of diverse subjects come together to think about the designed world around them. As Oxford is such a world-renowned city known for its research, the Design Society intends to look critically at research in a variety of disciplines and explore how this could potentially impact the choices of design practitioners.

In order to think more about the visual culture of the research being conducted in Oxford, the Design Society are launching a T-Shirt design competition in Trinity 2021. There is great flexibility in the brief; all that is asked is that entrants use their designs as a means to visually explore research conducted in Oxford. The diverse nature of design means that it forms part of everyone’s daily lives. There is no restriction, therefore as to what discipline the research inspiration comes from, it could be anything from the work by Wright Lab’s Oxford Bee Laboratory on pollinator populations, to pioneering research on the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

As a means to think more critically about the impact each individual has on the planet through material consumption, the t-shirts will be sustainably produced. TORCH has kindly agreed to subsidise the sale of the first t-shirts and fund a prize for the winner and runner-up. The deadline is 11 July 2021 and more details of how to enter can be found on the Oxford Design Society Facebook Page.
