Hugo Max is a musician, filmmaker and painter. He has performed at the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and has been concertmaster of the Oxford University Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oxford Baroque Players. A skilled improviser, he has run workshops at the Ashmolean Museum, Fusion Arts and Magdalen College Auditorium.
Premieres of Hugo’s films and video artworks have been hosted by the Jacqueline du Pré Concert Hall, SJE Arts and Modern Art Oxford. Since 2013 he has released over 100 short films on his YouTube channel Timepiece Pictures. Recently he has collaborated on documentaries with the V&A, the University of Vienna Archive and Korean Culture Centre UK. Hugo’s love of chamber music led to the creation of his forthcoming short film Dissonance which is currently in post-production.
Shochet (Butcher), Hugo’s debut solo show of paintings, took place at Oxford’s Dolphin Gallery in May 2022. He has co-curated and displayed in group exhibitions at the Holywell Music Room and the Ruskin School of Art.
