2018 - 2019 | Imed Ben Jerbania

Imed Ben Jerbania has been a Research Fellow at the National Heritage Institute of Tunisia since 2005. Currently, he is head of the section on Phoenician, Punic and Libyan sites of Tunisia and director of the archaeological site of Utica. Imed Ben Jerbania directs projects of excavations in Utica and also in the sanctuary of Baal known as "tophet" in Carthage. The excavations conducted in Utica are led by both Tunisian and international researchers, with the collaboration of the University of Oxford and the Centre for Phoenician and Punic Studies (CEFYP) of Madrid. Other research projects in Utica are being conducted with the University of Sassari (Sardinia) to further scholarly knowledge of the funerary world and the hinterland of Utica. The works and publications of Dr. Ben Jerbania concern mainly the study of the economic and cultural aspects of the Phoenician and Punic presence in Tunisia.

Dr Ben Jerbania was a TORCH International Fellow during Trinity Term 2019. He was hosted by Dr Josephine Quinn (Classics) and Prof Andrew Wilson (Archaeology).
