Palgrave Macmillan 2020: Celebrating Purpose, Passion and Transformation

Online event: 15.00-16.00 BST, 23 September 2020

2020 marks twenty years since Palgrave Macmillan revived the Palgrave name, continuing a long Macmillan tradition of publishing leading thinkers in the humanities and social sciences. These twenty years have also witnessed seismic transformation in the generation of scholarly research and in its communication. To celebrate, we are launching The Palgrave Macmillan Lecture Series on 23 September 2020, with the inaugural event taking place online in the form of a number of talks followed by a Q&A session. Our speakers represent academia and Palgrave Macmillan past and present. Together they will explore where we have come from, how we operate today and the place of the academic book in our contemporary media and information landscape.

The event includes the following talks:

Jeanette Steemers (Professor of Culture, Media and Creative Industries / King's College London) on 'Publishing and Academia: A Transforming Relationship'

Dominic Knight (former Chairman and Managing Director of Palgrave Macmillan) on 'Palgrave Macmillan: The Re-Invention of a Brand'

Mary Al-Sayed (Senior Editor, Sociology and Anthropology and Migration, Palgrave Macmillan) on 'Humanities and Social Sciences in the Wider World'.
