“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Good morning, and welcome to the seventh week of #TORCHGoesDigital! As we come into the seventh week of this programme, we would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who tuned in to watch our fourth Big Tent, Live Events! discussion with Professor Abigail Williams and Giles Lewin, who spoke on "The Social Life of Books: A History of Reading Together at Home". #TORCHGoesDigital! and our Big Tent, Live Events! would not be the successes they are without your interest, appreciation and interaction.

This week, we are focusing on the theme of "Music". We have curated a wonderful programme of blog posts, podcasts, news articles, poems, performances and more for you to enjoy .

This week, we will be considering questions such as:

  • What is the Hiphop Archive and Research Institute (HARI)?
  • How are neuroscience, music, and dance related?
  • What would a Tudor mass have sounded like?
  • How can we curate music digitally?
  • Why do we sing Christmas Carols?

This Thursday 7th May 2020, from 5.00pm-6.00pm, we have our next Big Tent, Live Events! live-streamed discussion. Professor Philip Bullock and Dr Leah Broad will be speaking on "Celebrating Tchaikovsky".

Remember, we are happy to feature content submissions related to this theme, be it a poem, artwork, blog post, or book review!

Unleash your creativity, and send your suggestions and content to torch@humanities.ox.ac.uk.
