Decolonizing African Museums

Decolonizing African Museums

The 'Decolonising the Museum' debate: an African Museum's perspective. A conversation with Dr Fredrick Manthi, Nairobi National Museum: National Museums of Kenya.

Dr Manthi is an AfOx Visiting Fellow, and this event follows the format of an exchange of perspectives and ideas on an important controversial topic with which the University of Oxford Museums are currently grappling. It is meant as a means to provide a voice to a non-Western perspective. Dr Manthi is an archaeologist and palaeontologist and Head of Earth Sciences at the National Museum, who shoulders much of the responsibility for curation of Kenya's rich fossil heritage. In addition to his Museum and research responsibilities he has a deep interest in public engagement, and is the founder of Kenya's "Prehistory Club".
