Call for papers:
Expressions of interest are invited to participate in a Medical Humanities workshop to be held at the University of Oxford on 25-26 May 2023. Jointly convened by Medical Humanities at the University of Oxford, King's College London, the Centre for British Studies (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The workshop seeks to showcase and share medical humanities expertise and research activity at the doctoral, post-doctoral and early career level, focused particularly on comparisons and synergies between Germany and the UK. Suggested themes include what have been the traditional ways of conducting medical humanities research in Britain and Germany; what are the trending and developing fields of enquiry nowadays? As well as investigating the wider environment in which medical humanities research takes place in both countries, the workshop also invites papers on a range of topics (this list is by no means exclusive): ethics, law, philosophy, history, culture and literature, public health, public understanding of medicine, emotions. Funding for travel and accommodation is available for those from the institutions involved.
Please send expressions of interest (250 word synopsis and short CV) to medhum@torch.ox.ac.uk by Wednesday, 5 April 2023.
