Join Queer Intersections Oxford for a talk by paparouna, translator of queer Greek literature into English. paparouna is the English translator of Giota Tempridou’s important queer novella διήγημας (Call Me Storyteller), published in 2023 by Akyvernites Politeies and adapted for the stage in 2024. A ‘document of the history of femininity’ (Jacobin Greece) that ‘finds forms of expression that name and identify violence’ (Frear), Tempridou’s διήγημας takes aim at patriarchy through dizzying, fragmented narratives that resist translation.
In this talk, paparouna will introduce the work and explain concrete translation issues and solutions they found when translating the work, while also expanding on their own queer approach to translation.
