Valency alternations in Hittite in an Indo-European perspective
Silvia Luraghi (Università di Pavia)
Friday 7 November 2025 (Week 4), 5pm
Seminar Room 63, Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities
Valency, verb classes and argument realization have been the topic of the typologically oriented Leipzig Valency Classes Project or ValPaL. The recent Pavia based PaVeDa project aims to enlarge the database to comprise ancient Indo-European languages. In this talk, Prof. Luraghi will set Hittite valency patterns and alternations in the larger framework of Indo-European by comparing data stored in the database, and show common and divergent tendencies concerning argument realization and the coding of semantic roles.
