What has happened across theatre & performance during Trinity Term 2026?
Stories From the Sands: new fragments of ancient plays
Stories From The Sands is a collaboration between Professor Laura Swift (Classics) and theatre company Potential Difference. Three artists were selected via an open application process to respond creatively to newly-discovered fragments of two Ancient Greek plays. Sindi Breshani created a demo for a new game, Richard Dufty created a new piece of theatre, and Eloise Moody created a new textile artwork with community groups. In June we held a public sharing for the three new works, and we hope to collaborate further with the artists to develop them in future.
Modular Merger
Last year we announced a collaboration between Modern Art Oxford and the Bate Collection of Musical Instruments. This partnership between Dr Emanuela Vai (Music) and cross-disciplinary video artist Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom, has resulted in Modular Merger, an exhibition at Modern Art Oxford which merges artistic practice with historical objects. The exhibition is free to visit and runs until 13 September 2026.
Participatory Performance Programme: Small Grants
The Performance Research Hub was delighted to award a final round of £500 small grants for participatory events which explore co-creative and collaborative work in theatre and performance. Read our blog post which lists all of the projects in this round!
Events
The Hub's DPhil network began a new series of events, Screening The Archive, which explores different approaches, ideas and methods for archiving live performance. Two brilliant producers from the Cultural Programme ran a workshop on creating event budgets, as part of our Performance Pathway programme. Tzen Sam (English) gave us a sneak peek of a paper she is giving at an international conference later this year, about true story behind A Doll's House.
