Dr Julia Rombough is an Associate Professor of History at Acadia University (Nova Scotia, Canada). Her research examines social, sensory, and gender histories in early modern Tuscany and the Mediterranean world. Rombough is the author of A Veil of Silence: Women and Sound in Renaissance Italy (Harvard University Press, 2024) and has published numerous articles that consider the sensory, spatial, and social histories of early modern Tuscany. Her current research examines entwined histories of enslavement, textiles, and race in early modern Tuscany and uses sensory methodologies and evidence to reveal new facets of these histories.
