Ruth Scobie is a stipendiary lecturer in English Literature at Mansfield College, Oxford, and the author of Celebrity Culture and the Myth of Oceania in Britain 1770-1823. A former Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Exploring Celebrity, she is currently working on a project exploring fictional representations of celebrity, whiteness, and the transatlantic slave trade in late eighteenth-century novels.
