Valentina is currently undertaking research into the use of spoken language in Sereni’s Gli strumenti umani (1965), and Caproni’s Congedo del viaggiatore cerimonioso & altre prosopopee (1965). Her doctoral thesis focuses on the questioning of the lyric form and includes these collections in a broader European context, by comparing them with Proust's and Kafka's works. She is also interested in Translations studies, in particular in Diego Valeri's oeuvre. Before joining Oxford University, she studied at the Università degli Studi di Padova, Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), and Freie Universität Berlin.
